Linking is the act of creating active bridges connecting intent, operator, target, or construct.
Structural links are subsets of larger constructs that serve to relay information or effects, created consciously and purposefully. Conceptual links, on the other hand, are applied automatically and unknowingly as we connect different words or ideas together while structuring or thinking out a spell—such as linking "protect" and "me" to form "protect me."
Links can be established with people, objects, organisms, concepts, and thoughtforms. Repeated chanting of incantations is a prime example of building a conceptual link; saying the intent out loud multiple times drives it deep into the mind. The mind interprets what is spoken, and once the mage fully "understands," they enter a flow state close to gnosis, allowing the spell to lock in. The mind makes these connections naturally as you repeat the exact same intent over and over to solidify that flow.
When applied to people, however, direct linking is rather intrusive. To establish it, you evoke the person's unique energetic signature and then open your own state, permitting an unobstructed exchange between fields. For constructs or thoughtforms, a link facilitates collaborative functioning. Programming these connections is the next logical step to success in energy programming. While energy links are subsets of larger thoughtforms, different types of thoughtforms naturally give rise to different types of links—as your understanding of thoughtforms broadens, so will your capacity to weave these connections.
To see this in practice, poppets are a prime example of how links are used to manifest. When working with a poppet, ask yourself: What is its primary function? Is it signifying someone symbolically for sympathetic magick, acting as a surrogate for baneful work, or serving as a shield to redirect harm away from a target?
For purely energy constructs, there are two particularly common connections:
Tethering Links: These "tie" constructs together so they stay linked even without actively interacting. This allows you to signal or invoke an entire set simply by calling one.
Data-Flow Links: These function as pipelines, allowing real-time information or energy to flow back and forth between constructs.
Lastly, always integrate protective measures into your link architecture as needed. Program one-way links when you want to send energy without opening a return path, or install filters to screen out unwanted feedback or negative intent.
